Welcome back to the blog readers. After my more mixed reaction to last week's episode of The Mandalorian, I am hoping that this week's episode will pick the steam back up and deliver another thrilling experience. Was this episode, titled "Chapter 20: The Foundling," written by Jan Favreau and Dave Filoni, and directed by series star Carl Weathers a step back in the right direction? Stick around to find out.
NOTE: I will be using spoilers for my thoughts, so DO NOT read ahead if you have not seen the episode.
I am not a shill, and my opinion is just as valid as anyone else's. I had a more mixed response to last week's episode. I was not a big fan of all the Dr. Pershing stuff, unless the point is to lead us somewhere down the line. But this time around, my focus is on this week's episode, which was miles better than last week's. We did exactly what I said we needed to do last week and that was shift the focus back to the lifeblood of this show. This shit ain't Andor.
Performances were definitely not the strong suit of the episode, but I have to make a case for little Grogu. I basically melted away anytime this little guy did something. His little waddle is literally the cutest thing I have ever seen. And him basically being treated like a person at the sparring duel was so charming. I actually got out of my seat and cheered when he beat the other foundling in the sparring duel because I love this little green guy so much. I told you all I wanted a Grogu plush.
The mystery set up last season has finally been answered and I am all here for it. We finally found out who rescued Grogu from the Jedi Temple all those years ago. And it is a Jedi named Kelleran Beq. That name may not sound familiar to you, I get it. But you may know his actor though. Ahmed Best: the man who played Jar-Jar Binks in the prequel series. When his name popped up in the credits I was absolutely shocked, as I never could have imagined he would want to ever return to Star Wars after the way he was treated for doing his job. The fact that he did, and instantly became the most loved man in the world right now, speaks volumes to the fact that we all have bad days at the office. There was no need for him to be treated the way he was, and now he has completely redeemed himself in the eyes of Star Wars fans. This is the true comeback story of 2023. I hope this man gets the world because he deserves it.
Bo-Katan has come into her own since joining Mando's clan, by leading the efforts to find the raptor thing that took the foundling (which turned out to be Paz Vizsla's son!) and being the one to rescue him. She was commended by the Armorer for her efforts, and now she is looked at in the highest regard in the clan. But the real meat of the episode is the finale, where the Armorer replaces a piece of Bo-Katan's armor and she tells her about seeing the Mythosaur in the Living Waters. That is not what surprised me though. What did is that fact that the Armorer basically tells Bo-Katan that she is crazy and delusional. This one adds another wrinkle into the relationship between Mando and Bo-Katan. Will he believe her or will she be doomed to this for the rest of her life? And what is up with the Armorer? Right before Bo-Katan told her about the creature, the Armorer tells her that the Mythosaur represents all of Mandalore. How could you not believe her?
Eve though Mando plays second fiddle this episode, the story this week is far better than that of last week's, and I hope the momentum keeps going as we have reached the halfway point of the season. Come on guys!
